> We look forward to welcoming The Rev. Darren Steadman for his first visit to St. John’s. He is the Chaplain of the Lower School of St. Christopher’s, Richmond, VA. Please join us to give Darren (comfortable being called by his first name) a warm St. John’s welcome for which we are known!
THE DAY of PENTECOST - Wear Red for Pentecost! Our beautiful Red hangings will be on the altar, pulpit and lectern.
From the Episcopal Church Calendar: As God has flooded earth and sky with color, so the Church has sensed the symbolic use of color in its worship. As dominating colors in nature change with the seasons of the fourfold year, so in the Church Year there is a structured change in the colors of the Eucharistic vestments, the liturgical colors. This sequence of liturgical colors has a principal role in Christian visual education, in teaching the Gospel through the eye. RED – the color of fire and of blood, is used on Pentecost; optionally for Confirmation.

Community Worship Service – June 22 – 5:00 p.m. – St. John’s
This will be a special opportunity to have a local priest, The Rev. Emily Dunevant, Rector, Grace Episcopal Church, Goochland, lead a worship service at St. John’s. The service will include some traditional Episcopal liturgy, plus elements taken from a Celtic Community Service celebrated every Sunday evening at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Richmond. In addition to Episcopal liturgy the service will include time for contemplative reflection and prayer, simple flute music and poems. In order to create a prayerful space for everyone, we ask that attendees enter the church in silence, and allow this time to rest and reflect in a beautiful sanctuary. This service will be open to the community; those of all denominations as well as those with no church affiliation. This service will be publicized to welcome those of the local community and those in surrounding areas. This will be a meaningful ecumenical worship opportunity, and we are grateful to Emily for leading this service at St. John’s.
