Church News & Events
The 19th anniversary of DeWitt Long’s first Sunday as our organist, choir director, and valued friend (August 17, 2003). An appropriate quote: “Music speaks to us in a language beyond words” from Always We Begin Again. We are VERY APPRECIATIVE of DeWitt’s organist music that enriches our worship and touches our hearts.
Peggy Williams Update. Peggy’s daughter says Peggy’s first month in assisted living was very difficult, but treatment for an infection has helped her. She is now getting some therapy to help her walk. Please send cards/notes to her – with positive/happy news. Address: Charlotte “Peggy” Williams, Brookdale Midlothian, 14016 Turnberry Ln, Room 311, Midlothian, VA 23113.

St. John’s Sunday Afternoon Music – the July 31 Violin Trio was a delightful time of music and fellowship with about 40 in attendance, both parishioners and others from the community and Richmond, despite the pouring rain! Donations of over $300 received for stained glass restoration fund.
Next event: Sept 25 – 3 p.m. The Fair Winds Trio.
New Bishop Elect: Presiding Bishop Michael Curry notified the Diocese of VA that The Rev. Canon E. Mark Stevenson received the required majority of consents from the House of Bishops and Standing Committees of the dioceses of The Episcopal Church, meaning that the June 4 election is now confirmed by the wider church and that Canon Stevenson is now officially Bishop-Elect Stevenson of the Diocese of VA.
Recent maintenance and/or improvements – there’s always something, but we’re on it!
Hot water in parish house: That smelly odor coming from hot water tap (caused by hydrogen sulfide) has been eliminated by turning up the thermostat on the new hot water heater! Thanks Kirk!
Sacristy handrail: Thanks to Bob Harris for installing a proper handrail for those tricky “trip hazard” steps between the sacristy and the altar area.
Cemetery tree trimming work completed following recent storm damage.
Slate roof repair: at the church to stop a leak in the southeast corner of the church.
SAVE THE DATE: St. John's Homecoming - Oct 30 10:30 a.m. followed by potluck luncheon at parish house
