Church News & Community Events
Ruth Oldham died at age 95 on Jan 17, 2025. Wife of Hammond Oldham, both of whom lived in Delray Beach, Florida. For over 30 years they returned to St. John’s for Homecoming. Hammond’s family of several generations had a farm near Columbia, and St. John’s was the family church. He calls Leanora periodically to keep in touch and exchange news. He reads our monthly email newsletter to keep up!
Recap - Annual Parish Meeting held Feb. 23
The annual parish meeting was a meaningful and integral part of the worship service, followed by a delicious potluck luncheon. Thanks to all for participating in this important part of parish life.
- Elected slate of 1 vestry members effective March 23, 2025: Melanie Mitchell
- Rotating off vestry March 23, 2025: Linda Verdery
- Annual parish budget for 2025 approved.
Sun. March 16 - The Rev. Shirley Smith Graham, Minister for Congregational Vitality, Diocese of VA, will lead us in worship and Holy Eucharist. Following the service we will remain in the church and she will facilitate a conversation about how small churches can be strong churches, including specifics for St. John’s. This will be an interesting and inspiring conversation! Coffee will be provided in the Narthex.
Lenten Luncheon Series: Grace Episcopal Parish House, 2955 River Rd W, Goochland, VA:
Thursdays - 11:30 am – 1 pm. Begin Mar 6 thru April 10. Not necessary to attend all sessions if your schedule doesn’t permit. (flyer in Narthex)
The Beatitudes teach us the values that are at the heart of our faith. What does it mean to be blessed? What does it mean to be a blessing? This Lenten season, you are invited to consider blessing anew. We will seek our own blessings and find ways to bless others as we seek a new heart in God.

Each session includes Eucharist, free catered lunch, ($5 donation accepted) and discussion.
